Welcome to Middle School Mathematics class. We will work together to develop your ability to solve algebraic expressions, comprehend operational functions and demonstrate mastery of topics as we go through the curriculum. You will learn to read and comprehend word-problems, draw diagrams, graphs and/or function, as well as evaluate expressions.

My goal for this class is to provide the students with a clear understanding of mathematics, breaking down the curriculum to their needs. Going through the academic year, students will be required to partake of the following to best grasp an understanding of the curriculum:

·      In-class note taking. Examples and useful tips are written on the board that would aid students throughout the year.

·      In-class participation. Students will be playing a role in their own education, where they will go up to the board and solve questions. This will help them get practice, as well as providing a sense of understanding, demonstrating the need of assistance if required.

Students will be taking quizzes, exams based on lessons from Eureka2 Math. Accompanying this, students will also be receiving homework from said curriculum. Projects will reflect the current topics, being done in class, through group work.

For this course, students will be required to have the following:

·      Graph ruled notebook.

·      Folder with 3-ring fasteners.

·      Pencils and Black/Blue pens.

·      7-8th Grade ONLY:

o   Scientific Calculator (Recommended: TI-30XS)

Required Math topic by Grade level:

5th Grade: Numerical Place Values, Operations with Fractions, Addition and Multiplication of Area and Volume, and Foundation in Geometry.

6th Grade: Rations, Rates and Precents, Multistep Operations involving Fractions, Foundations of Rational Numbers, Expressions involving Single-Step Equations, Area and Volume, and Statistics.

7th Grade: Rations and Proportional Relationships, Operations with Rational Numbers, Expressions, Equations and Inequalities, Geometry, Percents, and Probability and Population.

8th Grade: Scientific Notations, Exponents, and Irrational Numbers, Rigid Motions and Similar Figures, Linear Equations, Systems of Linear Equations, and Functions and Bivariate Statistics.

If a student is absent, they are responsible for any notes and work missed. Work is to be submitted the day the student returns and if any assessment is given, they will take the assessment the following day.
