First Grade
Ms. Yamilex Estevez
Welcome to St. Brigid’s First Grade.
The ELA curriculum at St. Brigid St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Academy’s 1st grade is designed to foster a deep appreciation for reading and writing among students. It encompasses a wide range of literature, from classic texts to contemporary works, allowing learners to engage with diverse voices and perspectives. Through interactive discussions, creative assignments, and comprehensive assessments, students develop critical thinking and analytical skills. The curriculum not only emphasizes comprehension and vocabulary but also encourages students to express their thoughts and ideas through various genres of writing, laying a strong foundation for effective communication.
In mathematics, the hands-on curriculum at our school empowers students to explore concepts through experiential learning. This approach allows learners to manipulate objects and use real-world scenarios to understand mathematical principles. By incorporating tools like manipulatives, interactive games, and technology, students are encouraged to develop problem-solving strategies and mathematical reasoning. This dynamic environment not only makes learning enjoyable but also helps students build confidence in their abilities as they collaboratively tackle challenges and engage in group activities that foster camaraderie and teamwork.
Ms. Estevez is committed to enhancing student learning and success by cultivating a loving and supportive atmosphere in the classroom. She believes that a nurturing environment is essential for academic achievement and personal growth. By fostering positive relationships and encouraging open communication, Ms. Estevez ensures that every student feels valued and understood. Her compassionate approach allows students to take risks in their learning, knowing they have the support they need to thrive. Under her guidance, students are not only motivated to achieve academically but also develop a strong sense of community and belonging, which is vital for their overall development.
